Whitby is an old maritime town, famous for Captain Cook, the 18th century voyager and explorer. Whitby Abbey was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.

The Howardian Hills is an area of outstanding beauty, 77 square miles of
woods, farmland and historic parkland. The area takes its name from Castle Howard (Brideshead Revisited), the spectacular eighteenth-century palace which has been home to the Howard Family for 300
years. Set in 1000 acres of parkland with fountains, lakes and woodlands. A wonderful day out for all the family. The River Derwent runs through the Howardian Hills via Kirkham Priory. Kirkham Gorge is one of the most pristine river systems in the
North of England.
